Additional Sanitation Steps we just implemented in lieu of the coronavirus.

Our founders 14 year experience at Aqua skin and nail bar has put us in the unique position of being pioneers in setting the bar for other beauty establishments in our community when it comes to sanitation and health conscious treatments. We continue to improve our health consciousness efforts during this period of ambiguity as epidemiologists try to determine what course the COVID-19 virus will take — and how contagious it is. The unknown in regard to the COVID-19 is not a happy place for any of us. However, we want to make sure you know that infection control is a vital part of Estetica Mia’s therapists’ education and training. In fact, infection control knowledge is required for our therapists’ state licensing requirements and our 6-month Aspire training program, in which we “step it up a notch” to keep our environment as sanitary and health-conscious as possible. The training program is built with the information that we have available to us through our connections at the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology as well as the California Department of Public Health and the CDC websites.

The good news is that alignment with all of our public health agencies’ recommendations has always been a priority for us.  However, in light of the COVID-19 virus pandemic, we have stepped up our sanitation protocols to a new level to protect your health.

  • The CDC recommends cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using regular household cleaning spray or wipes.  We are now wiping down all the credit card terminals and our front desktop with hospital-grade Clorox Healthcare Wipes with hydrogen peroxide before you approach the desk so the surfaces are disinfected before you touch them.  In addition, we will wipe down our front door handles after every client.

  • We re-positioned our motion sensor trash can next to the door of the bathroom so that you do not have to touch the handles.

  • Hand sanitizer is located at our front desk for you to use upon checking out.

  • Our therapists will take improved personal hygiene steps by washing their hands before they set up the room for your visit and using hand sanitizer before they start your treatment.

  • As recommended by the CDC, we have trained our therapists to cough into their elbows rather than their hands.

  • The city of Santa Barbara pubic health officials have recommended social distancing so our staff will ask you if it is OK to hug you or shake hands prior to doing so as we want you to remain in choice.

  • In order to help Estetica Mia stay profitable and provide stable living wages to our team, we have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This policy allows us to offer another client your reservation time when your plans change. However, because the onset of COVID-19 virus symptoms doesn’t always provide 24-hour notice, effective immediately we are updating our cancellation policy until further notice. Please call us to cancel as soon as you are not feeling well. Likewise, our team has also committed to staying home if they are not feeling well.  In those cases, we thank you in advance for your patience if we have to reschedule your reservations.

Our Sanitation Practices

Laundry

Our sheets are cleaned by a professional laundry service. Our towels are washed in hot water, with HE laundry soap and bleach as per California State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering guidelines.  Every client gets freshly laundered towels and sheets.

Implements

Disposable implements are thrown away after each use. Metal implements are cleaned first with hot soap and water, then fully emerged for 10 minutes in hospital-grade disinfectant. Once they are cleaned and disinfected, we store them in a clean box as per the California State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering guidelines.

Cleaning

Hard surfaces are wiped down with Clorox Healthcare Wipes with hydrogen peroxide.  We sweep and clean between each client and at the end of every business day. Each week our beautiful spa gets a deep cleaning by a professional team that uses health-conscious products to deep clean our floors, chairs, desks, kitchen, sinks, bathrooms, shelves and baseboards. Our HVAC system is deep cleaned and air filters are replaced every six months by Caldwell Construction. Our rugs are cleaned by Coleman Rug Cleaners every six months.

Water-less nail care treatments

We choose to move away from traditional water-based manicure and pedicures so that we would not expose our clients to the risk of coming into contact with dangerous pathogens associated with using water in a pedicure.  An added benefits of our soak less nail care treatments are the transformational improvements in the well-being of the foot and hand’s skin and our proactive steps in conserving one of our planet’s precious resources, water.
